Rich, multi-layered and epic in scale. Yes, there were few places when the pace slowed but it soon picked up again, and you were left gobsmacked by the wonder of it all. In this novel, the two main characters meet each other on the penal train transporting them to their prison.

I was rather unsympathetic to Ash at first. This book is full of surprises.
